Our Story
In 2013 we created a little family smallholding that we named ‘Goosefoot Miniatures’. It was part of a lifelong dream to share with our own young children, not only to educate and enrich their lives, but also ours. To be a little different we chose to keep miniature and rare breeds. We didn’t, and still don’t live on a farm, we like many others rent land wherever we can.
Little by little our little smallholding grew, much like our own family to eventually focus on sheep, and more recently bees. We predominantly keep pedigree Jacob sheep, but do also have a handful of Shetland sheep.
Ironically we stumbled across the fleece element of sheep keeping quite by accident. For a while we’d had an idea that the fleeces from the Jacobs were nice, but never really had the confidence in our own opinion, so had always just given them away. Then on a whim we entered our breed class in the fleece competition at the Great Yorkshire Show in 2022, and won our class! This gave us the confidence that we might actually be able to spot a good fleece!
Fast forward a few months and we took our fleeces to a lovely mill in Yorkshire that’s one of the last in the country still processing fleece the old way, with very old machines, and in early 2023 we received our very first pallet of our own wool from our own sheep fleeces….a very proud moment indeed! Goosefoot To Ewe was born!
Initially we just focused on creating and selling our pure wool products, but now also offer (as the seasons allow) a limited range of bee related products. As our bees and sheep live in harmony with each other, each supporting the others habitat we felt it was only right to showcase such wonderful and vital little creatures.
Our business ethics are very much promoting local British produce, whilst keeping it natural, chemical and dye free. We have nothing against natural dyes, but do not see the need to chemically alter something that is perfect as it is.
